Runtown To Appear At Abuja High Court To Give Reasons He Shouldn’t Be Sent To Prison

Runtown

An Abuja High Court has fixed 8th August, 2018 for Runtown to appear and give reasons why he should not be sent to prison for disobeying a Court Injunction made on 10th May, 2018.

According to a statement by Eric Many, he said:

“Recall that we served a Contempt Warning from Court on Runtown on 4th July, 2018 after he defied Court Order and released a song. Rather than heed the Contempt Warning and retrace his steps, he issued a Press Release in which he argued that the Injunction had expired.

“The Injunction was to stop things until the hearing of our Motion seeking to freeze activities until a decision on his status (whether he had discharged his obligations to us or not) is taken. It barred him from performing or releasing songs for the time being”.

The statement went on to add that, “the legal advice we received was that Runtown was wrong in his interpretation of the Rules of Court he relied on since he was already served with our Motion and was represented in Court on 31st May, 2018 when the Court adjourned to 27th September, 2018 to hear the Motion and the one filed by Runtown himself!

“To turn around after that day to proceed to do what the Order barred him from doing, and what the Motion served on him (adjourned in his presence) seeks to stop, is unjustifiable under the 7-Days Rule he relied upon. That could probably apply to a person against whom an interim injunction was obtained without more.

“Based on this, we have done two things: One, we have obtained a ‘FORM 49’ against him to explain why he should not be sent to prison, especially when he continued to publicize fixtures for shows in Canada, Namibia, Europe etc and threaten to release more songs, both actions in defiance of the Court Order. The application (now fixed for 8th August) has been served on him in the Punch as ordered by the Court.

“Two, since we will not allow him to continue to mock the Court Order we have applied and obtained a new Injunction to stop his actions to protect the Contempt Case. The new injunction bars him from his threatened defiant actions in Canada, Namibia, Europe etc. We believe the new Injunction has not also ‘expired’ and hope he respects the Court this time.

“Please bear in mind that our main case in Court boils down to whether Runtown has discharged his monetary obligations to us and delivered one Album to us as spelt out in our Contract. He has responded, so it will be good to allow the Court to decide what each party filed.

“Let both sides apply restraint. As we always say, Ericmany Limited will continue to follow the judicial process. We have confidence in the Rule of Law and will continue to patiently follow the due process until the wrong done to us by Runtown after our heavy investment on him is redressed”.

Federal High Court Slams Injunction On Afro-pop Artiste “Runtown”, Can’t Perform At Shows For Now

Iruntown

Earlier today, We posted a News “Runtown Parts Ways With His Label, Eric Manny Records, Claims Threat To Life

And now there is another update!

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has slammed an injunction against the rising musical artiste Douglas Jack-Agu aka “Runtown”.

The injunction prevents him from performing at any event or any form of recording for the time being unless with the approval of Ericmany Limited.

Runtown is signed under the Ericmany Entertainment label that presently holds the copyright to all his music. He was sued in the Federal High Court by Ericmany on allegations that he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label.

Ericmany Entertainment was said to have invested millions of naira on Runtown. However trouble started when Runtown apparently with the connivance of Bug Media ran by one Bugwu Aneto began to sideline Ericmany and collected money directly for shows without the knowledge of Ericmany. Bug Media is also a party to the court case.

In another twist of events, the management of Ericmany has sacked the said Bugwu Aneto as General Manager of the company for infractions which might not be unconnected with his alleged connivance with Runtown to shortchange the Label Ericamany.

Our reporter learnt that all inquiries about the artiste and bookings for shows would no longer be through Aneto but through the management of Ericmany.

It is not clear how the young artiste is reacting to the court case and injunction. Observers suggest he was misled by Bugwu, the former General Manager of Ericmany to ditch his boss and benefactor Ericmany, and may now that the chips are down find ways to go back and reconcile with the Ericmany.

See Below some of the Pages of the Court Injunction issued;

Breaking News!! Runtown Parts Ways With His Label, Eric Manny Records, Claims Threat To Life

Runtown

Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Runtown has parted ways with his record label, Eric Manny Records (or at least he’s trying to) and they didn’t do so on the best of terms.

Eric Manny, owned by billionaire businessman, Okwudili Umenyiora, has gotten a court injunction stopping Runtown from performing as an artist, amongst other things, pending when they settle their issues.

Runtown got his lawyers to write to the label, claiming threat to life, extortion, and that he didn’t get his payment/royalties from performances, ring-back tunes and etc.

He also said he has returned all properties he received from the label when he signed with them in 2014.

See The 6 Most Creative Nigerian Artistes At The Moment – Do You Agree?

When it comes to the music industry, there are people who start trends and people who jump on them and there are people who are only in competition with themselves.

Today we’ve come up with a list of the 6 most unique Nigerian pop artists of the moment. We tried making the list up to ten but these six artists below are the artists we think are extremely different in the industry right now.

Well, the list you are going to see below is judged based on their music genre, style of singing and their vocal uniqueness.

Well, we made some notable mentions after the top 6, find them below.

6. Patoranking

Patoranking is a great “Reggae Pop” singer, his uniqueness is quite obvious to many music lovers, judging from his hit single; Girlie’O, to collabos he has made since gaining stardom we can tell his style of music is different.

He just doesn’t sound like a normal reggae musician he sounds like he’s got his own style different from reggae, patoranking does not jump on trends, he starts trends, look at his most recent songs like, Love You Die, available and sure different.

5. Adekunle Gold

Adekunle Gold is an artist who came into limelight in year 2015 after the release of his first song “Sade” he sings Urban highlife, he has shown he is a gifted artist with songs he’s released since gaining stardom.

Adekunle’s voice is unique in his own way, he showed that in a couple songs he has done. In a simple expression Adekunle can be said to be a Pop,highlife, RnB artist altogether.

4. Falz

We all can agree Falz‘s versatility is on another level, he came in unique and still doing unique. His last album titled 27 gave us different sounds and styles.

Falz is creative and versatile when it comes to the content.

3. Niniola

House music in Nigeria is not apriciated as much as it should be, despite that fact this beautiful lady is currently killing it.

Niniola has dropped several unique sounds in the past that didn’t do really well, she gave us songs like, SokeJigi Jigi and the likes, if you take a little time to listen to all her music you would know she is a rare gem.

Niniola is currently the King and Queen of house music in Nigeria.

2. Simi

Simi is probably one of the most creative minds in the music industry.

Since the days of Tiff, see what she did with songs like Open and CloseJoromiJamb Question and her debut album has showed everyone how serious she takes her craft. And her producer Oscar is a freaking genius.

1. Burna Boy

Oh Finally, meet the number 1 person on the list, it is the almighty Burna Boy.
